We adopted Roxy (aka Tiana)in July of 2010 when she was five months old. She was dropped off at the humane society in a crate at three months old and then fostered for another two months. Roxy fit right in with Precious, another puppy we adopted from the Humane society at two months old. She is only three months older than Roxy. Roxy is a lab/terrier mix, but we don't know what kind yet. She is very hyperactive and loves treats, doggy icecream, liver bones, and new toys. Roxy and Precious are now inseparable and spend most of their time playing, eating, running and swimming at the lake, or napping. We are so thankful and blessed to have both Precious and Roxy.

Hi to all my friendds at the Humane Society! Its AJ! although I'm deaf and cant hear I can tell all my friends there about my new life and my new family! Well life is good in my new home. I have my family trained real well! I have plenty of couches and beds to sleep on and there is always someone willing to play with me. Im pretty spoiled here. My favorite things are riding in the jeep with the top off but mom makes me wear my seat belt! Playing with one or all of the boys at once because I can take them all on! I also have learned some new tricks whic always earn me treats. I have taught my family sign language so they will always know what I want. I like stopping out to see all my friends at the Humane Society, but it is always so nice to come back HOME!!!!!!!! Thank you to everyone that helped get me to my special home!

We brought Duke home about a year ago from the humane society. At first we were a little worried that our older lab who was almost two years at the time would be too rough with him. We soon realized that she loved playing with him and she actually would let him get away with a lot. She even let him bite her while playing while teaching him to be gentler with his mouth. If you look at her face in this photo you can see he was a little rough with her at first. They are getting along great and he has learned to be much gentler with his mouth. They are great buddies and we are so happy that we brought him home!

We got adopted by Charlie Dec.2009. He has grown by leaps and bounds since then and still has got some more to grow as he is a border collie/Newfoundland. What a smart puppy he is for only 10 months old! He knows alot of commands and will obey....on his own terms!!Our hearts were broken when we lost our beagle Earl, Charlie is mending them as no other could do.
Thank you to who ever gave him up!!

Two Decembers ago, our family pet of 13 years (also a shelter adoptee) passed away. She was a lab-mix and spoiled us with her personality. So we waited and checked out rescue sites online and talked about what we'd like to adopt next.

On July 22nd, I surprised my husband with a side trip, while we were in Sioux Falls, and delivered him to the Sioux Falls Humane Society to visit the dogs and consider one or two for adoption. We fell in love with a couple at the sizes we wanted, but knew we could really only bring one home at a time to bound with. So it was decided we'd bring Herman home.

Within 20 minutes Herman (who we renamed Petey) was relaxing with my husband on the couch and bounding during a scratching/petting session.

Thanks so much for having such wonderful volunteers at SFHS to help us in our endeavor. My husband is about as content as Petey appears to be, now that he's got once again a canine friend to hang out with.

Hi my name is Emily Lanning. I came in on the fourteenth of June. I got this lovely guinea pig you see below. Her name was Blackie, but I renamed her to Brownie, because she is more brow than black. She came in to the Humane Society on the ninth so she wasn't even in there a week. She loves to drag her food dish into her little house she has. She also loves to talk to my step father for some reason. She is one big guinea pig but she has a big heart..And I love her. :)

On December 20th, 2009, my Siberian Husky passed away. He was with us for almost ten years, and the pain of losing him crippled our entire family. A few days after celebrating Christmas with my family, I decided to go down to the Humane Society with my friend Krystal to try to make me feel better about the loss of my family pet. I was browsing around, looking at the beautiful animals they all have, and then walked in on the Puppy Section.

When I saw Spike, (named Roscoe at the time) I fell in love. Immediately I took him into a room with my friend and we sat with him, trying to get him to play but he was too shy. After a few minutes, I called my mom and told her to come down because I found a beautiful puppy I wanted. About half an hour later, we signed the papers and I had myself a new puppy.

Ever since then, my life has been filled with so much happiness. Spike is now such a lovable and friendly pup who cuddles with me and his toys. He loves water and jumps in the shower with me and trys to catch the water hitting him.

Last month I found out that Spike has hip dysplaysia. Now me and my family are finding out the best ways to fix his hips, and now he's on pain pills for them. But soon enough, he'll get his surgery and life his life out with me, jumping in my shower, chasing birds and bugs in the backyard, and barking in my face whenever he feels I'm sleeping too much.

I love this little puppy more than anything! Thank you, whoever dropped him off at the Humane Society. I'm sure he thanks you, too, because he sure is one spoiled pup! :)

In the 20+ years of our family we did not have a dog, just cats. We came to the Humane Society in November of 2009 and found Luta. He is AWESOME! He loves to run, run, run with me and can catch a frisbee like nobodies business. Our kids love him and he is never agressive. People ask us all the time where we got our dog. We proudly tell them, the Humane Society. They can't believe someone would give up a dog as beautiful as ours. Thanks for answering all our questions and making our first dog experience a great experience. The Carda's

We adopted Suzie May 16th and she has been a joy ever since. We were looking for a dog that would only add to our family of three and Suzie stood out to us. She is actually a very mild mannered companion and hasn't been destructive in anyway! She has enjoyed a large backyard to run in, long walks with her big brother Duke and her first camping trip. She loves the attention from our large extended family. I want to say thanks for giving us the opportunity to love a wonderful dog.

I adopted Marley on May 8th and we've had nothing but fun since. I chose to keep his name since he answers to it and because he is very high energy (anyone who has seen Marley and Me will understand). Marley loves to go for long walks and to play fetch. He does very good off the leash in our yard and brings it back everytime. This past weekend we took our first camping trip of the year and I'm happy to report that Marley had a blast on the walking trails and vegging in the sun. Him and the 3 cats are still a little unsure of each other, but I think they are getting closer and closer to being best friends. Marley has even converted my mom who is a "dog hater." Sometimes in the afternoon she will come over and "kidnap" Marley while I'm napping and take him for a walk or out to play fetch. He has a blast. Thank you so much for letting Marley come home with me. He is already part of the family.

If you had to give up a orange male cat named Sugar from TX a year ago in May, thank you so much for taking him to the humane center. I adopted him last Oct, and he has been a wonderful addition to my life. He is so calm, that at first it really was scary. The first night he came home with me, we had a little accident, he got locked in a closet for an hour. He did not make a peep, he just calmly waited on a shelf of linens for me to come and open the door. He seems to only play with foam balls, I wonder what toys he enjoyed before. I have bought him tons of toys which he just turns his nose up at. Wish that you had a way to let me know what he enjoyed in the past. He likes to snuggle under the blankets at times, but sleeps at my feet every night. I know that he was well loved by his early family, and wanted you to know he is well loved in my home also. My granddaughter who is 2 thinks he is wonderful, he reserves judgement on her. Once again thank you so much, for deciding on giving him up for adoption. PS he now has a sister named Rosie.

I adopted ginger about a month or so ago. I had lost my other guinea pig (that I adopted from the SFHS) and really needed another. I spotted her on the site, and was so excited and anxious to meet her. She is such a blast. She is very socialable and is a hoot. She gets very excited when she hears her fresh alfalfa bag and will squeek and jump. She loves to go outside and run around the yard. She also has gotten her fair share or dandelions too. I just want to thank the staff at SFHS for doing such a great job of taking care of these beloved pets and being so dedicated. Thank you SFHS for being such a great place for abandoned animals to go.
